The Interdisciplinary Histories Research Cluster brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to work collaboratively on projects that explore our shared and contested pasts, and their implications for the present. It is a grass-roots initiative, seeking to enable research to arise from diverse locations, in diverse modes, from across UBC.

Keynote Speaker Nominations

The cluster will provide for two "keynote" speakers from outside the University in a series of lectures in W2020 that relate to the Cluster's research interests (see our website for information about our four conceptual strands and our focus on community engagement, pedagogical innovation, and integration with the arts.) Those who nominate keynote speakers will be expected to play a key role in promoting the lecture if the nomination goes forward. Nominators will also work with the Cluster Graduate Assistant(s) to plan and promote the event. The Steering Committee, which will adjudicate the choice of speakers, will prioritize proposals that feature co-sponsorships/the mobilization of multiple funding streams and forms of support.

Anyone included in the Cluster community list is eligible to nominate a speaker through the Cluster to advance their research agenda; graduate students (with a faculty sponsor) as well as others are encouraged to initiate activities. Newcomers are welcome.

This Call for Applications targets activities to take place in Winter 2020 (Sept 1, 2020 - March 31, 2021).

Winter 2020 deadline: Before 5 p.m. May 15, 2020

Workshop/Seed Grant Applications — Winter 2020

The IHRC will provide seed grants/workshop funds in support of activities in Winter 2020 that foster research along the lines of the Cluster's interests (see our website for information about our four conceptual strands and our focus on community engagement, pedagogical innovation, and integration with the arts.) Please note that the Cluster cannot fund direct research costs. The Steering Committee will allocate funds in accordance with the number of applications and financial resources available; it therefore may need to offer partial funding for proposed activities. The Committee will prioritize proposals that feature co-sponsorships/the mobilization of multiple funding streams and forms of support. Activities with a public-facing component will also be prioritized. Anyone included in the Cluster community list is eligible to apply for funds through the Cluster to advance their research agenda, and graduate students (with a faculty sponsor), as well as others, can initiate activities. Newcomers are welcome.
