Falling Tower

Project Lead: Yuning Liu Ph.D. student, Department of Theatre and Film Studies

“Falling Tower” is a three-act play that will showcase the vivid lives of Chinese immigrants in Canada for over sixty years, from 1900 to 1960. Set in Vancouver’s Chinatown, the play explores the city's changes from the perspective of a girl (then a woman), a second-generation immigrant, and her relationship with her father. Following their story, we are offered a glimpse into the complex hierarchies and identity inside and outside of the Chinese community. Gradually revealing the blending of old and new, up and down, and East and West, the play will call on us to contemplate the processes of cultural assimilation and the creation of new identities.

The first element of this project is a theatrical workshop in late April: Join us!
